CATERING ASSISTANT
Catering Assistant

Full Time, Term time (plus 2.5 weeks)

Ryde School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for children aged 2 -18 years old. We are currently looking for a Catering Assistant to join our team and contribute towards the delivery of our first-class food service. Our purpose is to provide an exceptional education on the Isle of Wight, enabling our boarding and day pupils to flourish in mind, body and soul. We nurture pupils to make a positive difference and embrace the opportunities of the wider world. In this role you will be part of our busy Catering team serving pupils, staff and visitors with fresh and nutritious food with a varied menu that changes daily. Routine tasks such as setting up the service counters, serving food and cleaning down the service area and dining hall are key components of the job. Assisting with the cleaning of utensils, crockery and cutlery will also be necessary to support the smooth running of the overall dining experience. As you would expect in a role like this, being approachable for our customers whilst working in an efficient and tidy manner is essential. Full responsibilities are detailed in the job description.

Job Description

This role is offered on a full time, term time (plus 2 ½ weeks) basis. The Catering team operates on a rota basis, working 5 days out of 7. The boarding environment creates the need for us to work 7 days per week, to include evenings and weekends, and the rota system allows us to create a fair division of the work. The hours of work for this particular role are 33 hours per week.

FRENCH LANGUAGE ASSISTANT
French Language Assistant
Part Time 0.4 FTE, Term Time
Fixed Term Contract (Academic Year 2024-25)


Ryde School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for children aged 2 -18 years old. We are currently looking to appoint a French Language Assistant to provide support in the classroom to aid pupils with their French communication (particularly, oral skills) thus contributing to the overall, efficient running of lessons.
Modern Foreign Languages remain very popular at our School, with five languages taught up to GCSE level (French, Spanish, Mandarin, Latin & German) and four languages taught at post-16 level (French, Spanish, German and Italian). In this role you will help the School’s French GCSE and IB Diploma students prepare for oral examinations and practise their speaking skills.

The successful candidate will:
● Have technical knowledge of the subject; native or near-native level of fluency
● Work independently with small groups of students to introduce basic to advanced language or to improve linguistic ability, with a focus on oral skills
● Be responsible for supporting teachers with the preparation and delivery of lessons and activities
● Prepare and conduct conversational one-on-one sessions with pupils
● Prepare a range of resources and tools to support pupils to develop their written and spoken language skills
● Have effective classroom management skills to create a positive learning environment  
● Adapt to work independently and as part of a team
● Remain calm, even in times of pressure

Job Description 
This role is offered on a part time, term time basis with a requirement to work two days per week on Thursday’s and Friday’s. All employees expected to be able to attend INSET days.

Evening Cleaners

Ryde School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for children aged 2 -18 years old. We are currently looking for a number of Evening Cleaners to join our team and contribute towards the overall presentation and cleanliness of the school.


Our purpose is to provide an exceptional education on the Isle of Wight, enabling our boarding and day pupils to flourish in mind, body and soul. We nurture pupils to make a positive difference and embrace the opportunities of the wider world.


As part of our busy Domestic team you will be responsible for cleaning the main school areas and classrooms to a high standard. Due to the nature of the main school operations, the hours of work need to be outside of our normal school day. We have varying requirements at this time, which can be discussed in more detail at the interview stage, but in general the majority of the team work 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with the earliest start time being 17:00 pm and the latest finish time being 22:00 pm. We will always do our best to be flexible to accommodate individual working preferences where we can.


Routine tasks include cleaning and tidying classrooms and communal areas, wiping down surfaces and desks, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and sanitising toilets, refilling soap & tissue dispensers, and emptying bins. Full responsibilities are detailed in the job description.
