Sport & Extra-Curricular Activities
We encourage all our pupils to fully participate in activities beyond the classroom. Regardless of ability, all children aim to reach their potential and benefit hugely from the team spirit and a sense of achievement that our opportunities offer.
The facilities for pupils in Prep are of an excellent standard plus many activities make use of the adjacent Senior School facilities which extends our options and ensures a familiarity with the wider school that helps with transitions between Prep and Senior School at Year 7. The whole Island is our playground and we make full use of it for trips to places of specific interest for science, history, geography, and STEM related topics. The school grounds offer interesting outdoor areas including a beautiful Victorian greenhouse, extensive fields and sports pitches and even bee hives which pupils can care for, fully clothed in school beekeeper outfits. Part of our wide-ranging co-curricular and extra-curricular offering includes:

Music and drama is a big part of being at Ryde and from a very early age children are encouraged to take part. We offer music lessons and opportunities for plays, musicals and drama lessons and clubs.
Sport
Children are encouraged to participate fully in sport, regardless of their ability. We aim to reach their potential and they all benefit hugely from the exercise, team spirit and sense of achievement that our sports programme offers.
The facilities for sport are extensive and include a purpose-built sports hall, all-weather surface for tennis and netball, outdoor pitches for hockey, rugby and football and an athletics track and cricket square.

Curriculum sport is run by our specialist PE teachers. A strong inter-schools fixtures list and tour programme allows children to represent the school and compete competitively against other schools, as well as representing their house in inter-house sporting events. Many children also play for Island teams and some play at county level. Competitive sailing based out of Seaview Yacht Club, and tennis played at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club are just two of the sports offered as extra-curricular clubs. Netball, football, dance and fitness are also available within the programme of activities. |

Sailing
At Ryde we are proud to be one of the few non-selective schools in the country that offers sailing within the curriculum, allowing all pupils from Prep to Sixth Form, beginner to elite, to experience and develop sailing in the waters around the Island and further afield through inter-schools sailing competitions.
Extra Curricular
Our after-school clubs are set termly and an example is below. Once registered at Ryde you will be given options to sign up your child for the activities you want (please note minimum and maximum numbers do sometimes apply and whilst we aim to ensure as many as possible are offered within the school fees, sometimes a small additional charge may apply).
