RESULTS, DESTINATIONS, &  CAREERS

We are justifiably proud of our examination results and university destinations, but these are by no means the only measure of our success. Our latest full inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate team, praised many excellent features in our high quality provision.

In addition to the excellent academic, creative arts and sporting activities, the location of our school enables us to provide an exciting, adventurous and diverse array of extra-curricular activities that all pupils are encouraged to participate in.

A Levels 2025 - best results since 2016

Ryde School pupils have achieved an excellent set of A Level and IB examination results. This cohort attained 35.9% of grades at A*-A and 66.0% of grades at A*-B, the highest grades at this level since 2016 (excluding Covid-adjusted years). The IB Diploma Programme grades issued earlier in the summer were also very impressive with the average score of those achieving the Diploma being 35 points - above the global average.  The IB Career-related Programme grades were the best results the School has ever achieved with 83.3% pupils gaining a distinction or better in the BTEC part of their programme and an average of 150.1 UCAS points per pupil - higher than three A grades at A Level.

There are some superb individual A Level performances to celebrate.  Particular congratulations go to the following pupils for their achievements and the degree courses they will go on to study: Kai M, two A*s and two As (Physics at Durham); Benjamin L (Medicine at Kent and Medway Medical School), Ellie M (Liberal Arts at Birmingham), Alice O (gap year with a place for Architecture at Manchester), Kavin S (Medicine at Bristol) and Harry S (Dentistry at Manchester) who all achieved two A*s and an A; Hugo G, an A* and two As (Physics at Bath); Charndler H, four As (Aerospace Engineering at Bath) and Lewis C, three As (Design, Innovation and Creative Engineering at Queen Mary, London).

The School also has some fantastic IB performances to note.  In the IB Diploma Programme cohort,  Wilona R gained 41 points (Medicine at KCL), Elliott G, 38 points (Psychology at Durham) and Cully T, 36 points (International Relations at Bath). Among those who took the IB Career-related Programme, three pupils achieved UCAS points above the equivalent of three A Level grades at A*: Bronte B,195 points (Geography and Psychology at Cardiff), Will L-P, 194 points, and Grace H, 176 (Social Work at Edinburgh).

Four other pupils achieved the equivalent to three A Level grades at A in their points totals.  The vast majority of students who took A Levels and the IB programmes received their first choice University offers.

Three other individuals to highlight are Arthur A who has achieved a prestigious tennis scholarship to study at Georgia State University in the USA, and Tom T and Enid R who will attend the highly-regarded Emil Dale Academy to study Musical Theatre.

LEAVERS' DESTINATIONS & COURSES 2022 - 2024

Head Master Will Turner commented “Our leavers this summer can rightfully be enormously proud of what they have achieved.  These excellent grades are a reflection of the pupils’ hard work throughout their time in the Sixth Form and the dedication and professionalism of their teachers who have so ably supported them.  It is particularly impressive that we have five pupils leaving to study the highly competitive courses of Medicine or Dentistry.  The breadth of courses being studied is also notable, ranging from degrees covering Law, Engineering, Economics, Humanities or Sciences to Filmmaking, Costume Design, Ecology and Conservation, and Animation.  There are also a number of pupils leaving to begin degree apprenticeships with globally-recognised companies. The variety of options being pursued highlights the breadth of the curriculum we offer in the Sixth Form and how much the School supports each individual’s ambitions.  All of us at Ryde School wish this cohort the very best as they move on to the next chapter of their lives.”

Careers

Students in the Sixth Form develop their aspirations at differing paces so we refine the process of the more advanced and encourage those who may need more help to understand that a decision will need to be made.

In the Spring Term of the Lower Sixth PD sessions are career, progression and life-skill related. Visits to career fairs and university or work-related events are also arranged and the mechanics of UCAS applications is dealt with by the Sixth Form tutor team but we advise where necessary.

Destinations of Leavers

At Ryde we pride ourselves on bringing out the best in our pupils and helping them to optimise talents and interests. Consequently our leavers’ destinations are interesting and varied.

We send pupils to Oxbridge, other Russell Group Universities, UK and International universities and colleges, art, music and drama schools and over 90% of all pupils will get their first or second choice of destination.

Pupils also choose to take a gap year or go straight into employment, often following an apprenticeship or training course.

Course choices are as diverse as destinations:
